UFEA Trading, Urban Farmer’s Kenyan branch, hosted its first farmers’ day in Kenya at the Radisson Hotel in Westlands on the 22nd of May 2018.
The farmers’ day was focused specifically on pig farming and the theme for the day was Progressive Pig Farming in Kenya.
The event was opened by Mr Peter Keiyo the country manager of UFEA Trading and presentations were delivered by Dr Andrew Tucker of CS Vet, Mr Andrew Reeders of Topigs Norsvin and Mr Steven Payne of Urban Farmer. UFEA Trading are extremely grateful to its partners for their support.
The presentation topics were varied and included health, management, genetics and nutrition. The underlying theme was that modern, and profitable, pig farming requires a holistic approach to production where all aspects of production are addressed equally.
The event was attended by a select group of individuals from the industry including farmers, feed millers, meat processors and genetic suppliers from the industry. The opportunity for interaction was greeted with robust discussion and healthy debate on the challenges facing the Kenyan pig industry.
All present acknowledged that the event offered a valuable forum for sharing information and learning and it was agreed that UFEA Trading would host a pig study group quarterly to maintain the momentum that this event created.
The next event will be on the 11th of September 2018.
