Steven Payne of Urban Farmer participated in the South African Society for Animal Science 2019 Industry Day at the University of Limpopo. Steven addressed the students and explained how he started Urban Farmer in 2009 in response to a demand for better service from clients. He highlighted the exciting opportunities for new graduates entering the livestock sector.
The aim of the South African Society for Animal Science is to advance animal science and promote viable animal production systems, while sustaining natural resources and the environment. Animal science deals mainly with three basic disciplines namely breeding, physiology and nutrition, as well as animal product sciences (meat, dairy, wool, etc.). The scope of our interests includes all facets of the husbandry of farm livestock species (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, ostriches and horses) including the products derived from them (meat, milk and dairy products, wool, mohair, leather and eggs) as well as relevant aspects of aquatic and wildlife species. Membership is open to any suitably qualified person involved with animal production whose activities may contribute to the scientific knowledge of animal production or to its application to agriculture.
